Susan Shannon and Sheriff Larry Stelma

Susan Shannon has spent thirty years in leadership positions in government and non-profits in Grand Rapids and Seattle. She is currently the Executive Director of the Children’s Assessment Center which investigates and treats children who have been sexually abused. Prior to that she served as Economic Development Director for the cities of Grand Rapids and Seattle. She has been a member of Rotary in both Grand Rapids and Seattle.
Lawrence A. Stelma – Sheriff Stelma is the Kent County Sheriff, where he is responsible for all law enforcement activities in the unincorporated area of Kent County, the operation of the Kent County Correctional Facility, security of the court houses and judges, and prisoner transportation. His responsibilities include investigating crimes against children, as well as securing suspects in jail and through the judicial process. He has served within the Kent County Sheriff’s Office for over 44 years, starting as a deputy and working through the ranks to Sheriff in 2000. He became a board member at the Children’s Assessment Center in 1999, where he has served on the board at large and the finance committee and also provides on-site investigators at the Center. He has also served on multiple local, state, and national boards for various law enforcement initiatives, the community, and school and faith based organizations.
