DESCRIPTION:Dr. Robinson has had a varied nursing career in both clinical and administrative leadership positions. Her clinical specialty has focused on adults and children with life-limiting pulmonary disease. Her administrative leadership experience includes assisting in the development of an inpatient palliative care unit and one of the first adult cystic fibrosis adult clinics in the nation. Her passion for the care of seriously ill individuals and their families led to extensive experience with patient/family communication relative to quality of life and treatment preferences.  Her scholarly work has focused on communication skills for health professionals\, including advance care planning (ACP) conversations. Her friendly and open approach has helped many individuals create an advance directive reflective of one’s own personal values\, beliefs\, and preferences for end-of-life care. \nDr. Robinson holds an earned Doctor of Nursing Practice degree from the GVSU-Kirkhof College of Nursing\, specializing in health systems leadership. She has served as an Adjunct Faculty member at GVSU in the nursing program where she assisted with the development and co-taught in the post-graduate interprofessional hospice and palliative care certificate program. Dr. Robinson is certified as a hospice and palliative care nurse\, a Respecting Choices© First Steps ACP Facilitator and instructor\, an Advanced Steps ACP Facilitator\, and is a trainer for the End-of-Life Nursing Education Consortium (ELNEC). DESCRIPTION:Dana Friis-Hansen is Director and CEO of the Grand Rapids Art Museum\, taking the helm in July of 2011. \nPrior to joining GRAM\, he most recently served as the Executive Director of the Austin Museum of Art. \nFriis-Hansen is an accomplished curator\, writer\, and editor with dozens of exhibitions\, catalogues\, books\, articles\, and published papers to his credit. \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n \nRon Platt is Chief Curator at the Grand Rapids Art Museum\, where he plans and\norganizes the Museum’s program of changing exhibitions\, leads the presentation\nand growth of GRAM’s permanent collection\, and works with donors\, the art\ncommunity\, and the public to broaden GRAM’s audience and mission. \nRon’s specialty is modern and contemporary art\, and he has organized numerous\none-person and thematic group exhibitions\, artist’s residencies and\ncommissioned projects over the last twenty-five years. Prior to joining GRAM in\n2014\, Ron has held curatorial positions at the Birmingham Museum of Art\, the\nWeatherspoon Art Museum at the University of North Carolina\, and at MIT’s List\nVisual Arts Center. He received a BA in American Studies from University of\nMaryland and an MBA in Arts Administration from Lesley University in\nCambridge\, Massachusetts. Ron puts the G in LGBTQ! \nAmong the more than fifty exhibitions he has curated are Nature/Nurture:\nArtPrize Seven at GRAM\, Under the Skin: Tattoos and Contemporary Culture\,\nDawoud Bey: The Birmingham Project\, and one person shows by Dona Nelson\,\nLuca Buvoli\, and Tom Friedman. \n

SUMMARY:Susan Shannon and Sheriff Larry Stelma
DESCRIPTION:Susan Shannon has spent thirty years in leadership positions in government and non-profits in Grand Rapids and Seattle.  She is currently the Executive Director of the Children’s Assessment Center which investigates and treats children who have been sexually abused. Prior to that she served as Economic Development Director for the cities of Grand Rapids and Seattle.  She has been a member of Rotary in both Grand Rapids and Seattle. \n  \nLawrence A. Stelma – Sheriff Stelma is the Kent County Sheriff\, where he is responsible for all law enforcement activities in the unincorporated area of Kent County\, the operation of the Kent County Correctional Facility\, security of the court houses and judges\, and prisoner transportation.  His responsibilities include investigating crimes against children\, as well as securing suspects in jail and through the judicial process. He has served within the Kent County Sheriff’s Office for over 44 years\, starting as a deputy and working through the ranks to Sheriff in 2000. He became a board member at the Children’s Assessment Center in 1999\, where he has served on the board at large and the finance committee and also provides on-site investigators at the Center. He has also served on multiple local\, state\, and national boards for various law enforcement initiatives\, the community\, and school and faith based organizations.
