8.22.19 – SPOKES Notes
SPOKES Notes written by Roger Morgenstern
On Aug. 22 we welcomed R.I. District 6290 Governor Dave Thomas. After meeting with the Club Board and Committee Chairs, he joined us for lunch, complete with an old school Michigan road map showing the District’s 60 clubs, which stretch into Canada. Grand Rapids was his 31st Club since July 1! Using various car analogies, he said “you have a real powerhouse in your board but members move it forward.”
DG Dave noted the first District Governor was from our Club, Paul Bond in 1932, and each year more knowledge and experience is added, like layers of cake. “I’m DG No. 88 and your members Lody Zwarensteyn and John Salan built this cake too…I can do very little but together we can do anything.”
It was a great meeting to have the District Governor present, as he welcomed our newest member, Spencer Haworth, the new donor relations officer with Degage Ministries, and honored 13 Paul Harris Fellows: Alan Abraham, Peter Albertini, Julie Brinks, James Crosby, Andy DeVries, James Eliassen, Leena Mammen, Tom Mathison, Grace Shearer, Doug Thompson, William Waanders, John Wisentaner and Bruce Young.
President Neil reminded us that the Paul Harris Fellow awards recognize individuals who contribute, or who have contributions made in their name, to the Rotary Foundation of Rotary International. For several honorees, they have been recognized several times and we sincerely appreciate their financial support.
