10.27.16 – Jumpstart “Read for the Record”
Jumpstart’s Read for the Record, is a national campaign that was launched over a decade ago to address the educational inequities that leave too many children unprepared for kindergarten. On Thursday, October 27, 2016, children and adults gathered to learn, laugh, and read this year’s campaign book, The Bear Ate Your Sandwich by Julia Sarcone-Roach, as part of the world’s largest shared reading experience, and we are delighted that Read for the Record once again inspired adults to read with children, spurred policymakers and organizations to take action towards transformative change in early education, and put books in the hands of more children across the country. Stay tuned for more campaign announcements in the weeks ahead, including this year’s final total of readers!
Thank you to our Rotary volunteers; James Eliassen, Jessica Scalabrino, Grace Shearer and Hilary Smith, along with volunteer sheryl Siegel for taking part in this year’s “Read for the Record” event.
