Michael Faas has served as President and CEO of Metro Health – University of Michigan Health Hospital/Metro Health Corporation since July 1994, and since 2010 he has also served as President of Pennant Health Alliance. During his tenure Metro Health – University of Michigan Health has won numerous national and state awards, including the Environmental Leadership Circle award from Practice Greenhealth for environmental excellence 2009 – 2014; West Michigan’s 101 Best and Brightest Companies to Work For award received 2011 – 2014; National Best and Brightest Companies to Work For in 2013 and 2014; Health Care’s Most Wired Hospitals awarded in 2001, 2010, 2012, 2013 and 2014; Michigan’s Best and Brightest in Wellness in 2014, 101 Best and Brightest Sustainable Companies 2012 – 2014; 50 Greenest Hospitals in America in 2013; and numerous awards for clinical excellence.
Prior to coming to Metro Health – University of Michigan Health, Mr. Faas served as Senior Vice President of Operations at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. This was a 560-bed tertiary services hospital providing health care throughout Eastern Iowa. Mr. Faas also served as President of VHA Iowa (a 27-hospital system in Iowa), President of Grinnell General Hospital, and Vice President of St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tacoma, Washington.
Mike received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Iowa in 1975 and 1977 respectively. He completed a residency at North Memorial Hospital in Minneapolis and received the Iowa Hospital Association’s Young Administrator Achievement Award in 1985. Mike also received the Healthcare Leader of The Year Award from the National Kidney Foundation in 2004 and the Walter F. Patenge Medal of Public Service from Michigan State University in 2009.
